Plus, if you are using a tablet or convertible laptop running Windows 10, your annotations can be made using a stylus. Now, after you take a screenshot, you can immediately begin cropping, editing, and annotating the screenshot. In addition to the old Snipping Tool’s features, Snip & Sketch adds many new annotation features to make this screenshot utility more useful. While the original tool simply took screenshots of either the full screen or an area you chose, it couldn’t do much else. Snip & Sketch, available in the latest build of Windows 10 (Build 1909), is a new program meant to replace the Snipping Tool that has been available in Windows 7, 8, and 10. One in particular that has stood out for me in my everyday work has been the new Snip & Sketch tool. Whether you’ve used Windows 10 for a while now or just recently upgraded, there are, of course, many changes and improvements with each feature update. I don't use it much, but when I do and I need to do a screenshot I remember how much I hate it's native lack of functionality.Īre there good alternatives to SnagIt that are open. I'm actually going to buy it for my wife's old laptop later tonight. ![]() On a Mac, the $1.99 for Greenshot seems like a steal considering how much the built-in MacOS screenshot functionality sucks. Just to with any of the options above and save yourself a bunch of money and system resources! I had it on my work laptop for years in a previous job and hated it because it was just so overblown for what's needed 99% of the time. SnagIt is fine, but WAY more than what most people need or use, expensive, and has a huge footprint in comparison. The two snipping utilities in Windows 10 are good enough for probably 95% of people as well. I am debating whether to migrate totally over to it from FastStone 5.3 or just pay them the $20 for the lifetime license since I have used their free one for the past 15 years or more! Or, just keep using the free version because it still works great! The latest commercial version is FastStone 7.5 and is only $19.95 for lifetime.Ī great open source one that I recently discovered is Greenshot and it fills all of my needs as well. I still use the last free version of FastStone Capture 5.3 that fills all of my needs.
